Most of my display is hand built, with  the exception of the six foot artificial tree's that I use.
I like using them for the simple reason that they look good for the people driving by
during the day hours. I try to make my display pleasing during the day as well.
Make yourself a Grid, or a drawing of your set-up, it makes it a lot easier when it comes
time to set-up everything up, to know where everything is going to be placed.
I not only use a drawing of my set-up, but I also labeled every element of the display on my drawing,
so I know where the wires are going to go, and where they are going be tied into each channel of my light controller.

These are pretty self explanatory, Cut a slot with a table saw insert plex. glass box in all four sides.
You can use C9  C7  Mini's  or rope light for your lights.

Mega Tree
10" abs hammered in my grass.
This is where the base of my
center pole goes
10" plywood circle with slots
to hold lights as they are
strung over.
You can see here the three way adapters I
use.
You can see how I secured my lights
to the lower ring or base of the tree.
I used electrical tape after wrapping
lights around ring.
This was a indoor star that I removed the
standard lights and wire, and added outdoor
lights and then reassembled.

Candy Canes

I used 4" pvc pipe for the candy cane's. Two 90 degree elbows per unit. I used red duct tape for the red candy wrap, and wrapped the candy cane's with white and red lights. (These are 8 foot tall)
There are as many ways to make a mega tree as there are people making them. I like to set mine into a piece of PVC conduit that in my yard year around. Then I tie it off at the top in three place's were I then stake it to the ground. I cut a 1" thick piece of plywood and cut grooves in it to hold my lights as I hang them over the top. I have a 9' ring at the bottom made out of electrical gray pvc conduit, which I then tie of the light string to about 12" off the ground.
